JOB DUTIES The chosen candidate will play a key role in directing the agency’s work with individual artists as well as assist the executive director by formulating objectives, priorities, budgets, and evaluations through the top-level administration of several grants and programs, including the following areas: Individual Excellence Awards Percent for Art folk and traditional art (e.g., Traditional Arts Apprenticeship grants, Ohio Heritage Fellowships) individual artist residencies the Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery and other exhibitions The chosen candidate will also be able to design administrative approaches to problems; answer questions from grant applicants, public officials, and the general public; be able to explain agency policies, procedures, and its services philosophy; and represent the agency’s interest at meetings. The chosen candidate will also supervise staff and contract workers, as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS The chosen candidate must have the following minimum class qualifications for employment: 1. Completion of a graduate core program in fine arts or humanities AND 6 months experience as supervisor or manager or fine arts coordinator/director with budgeting experience OR 2. 6 months experience as a Fine Arts Specialist 3 OR 3. The equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above FULL POSITION DESCRIPTION Assists executive director in formulating Artist Programs (e.g., Individual Excellence Awards), Percent for Art, folk/traditional art (e.g., Traditional Arts Apprenticeship grants, Heritage Fellowships), individual artist residencies, OAC Riffe Gallery, and other exhibitions (e.g., Spotlight at the Governor’s Residence, Ohio House of Representatives Student Art Exhibition, Ohio Civil Rights Commission Youth Art Exhibition, Governor’s Office art loan) objectives, priorities, budgets, & evaluations for the entire agency: administers aforementioned grants and programs. Designs administrative approaches to problems (i.e., designs processes for formal presentations to council & council committees, discusses & determines number of exhibitions & workshops to be developed) Assumes executive director’s responsibilities in his/her absence (e.g., answers questions from legislators, gives speeches to explain agency policies, procedures, & services philosophy, takes necessary disciplinary action) & supervises assigned staff. Acts as liaison regarding the Artist Programs policy & procedures to public officials, arts organizations, private agencies, & the general public to explain & discuss policies & procedures Represents agency at intra-agency, intra-state, & national meetings.
