Ohio Arts Council Seeking Social Media and Special Events Fellow

The Ohio Arts Council (OAC), a national leader in arts administration, is seeking a dynamic, motivated marketing candidate for a high-quality professional learning opportunity. Designed in partnership with the Columbus Arts Marketing Association (CAMA), this is a yearlong, paid fellowship.

The person accepting the fellowship will gain hands-on, practical experience with the state’s arts agency.   

The Social Media & Special Events Fellow works on the Operations and Public Affairs team. This position supports the Ohio Arts Council’s communications strategy with a focus on managing social media and event planning. The fellow will also have the opportunity to engage in professional learning and leadership development through CAMA.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience creating and curating social media content, be detail-oriented and deadline-driven, possess an interest in highlighting the arts, and share the OAC’s passion for impactful storytelling.  

Areas of Responsibility:

  • BRAND | Develop a working understanding of OAC identity and style while working with the OAC’s communications strategist to ensure consistent voice across platforms and publications.
  • SOCIAL | Implement social media strategy; create, curate, and schedule social media content across OAC platforms; and track, analyze, and report social media analytics. Familiarity with managing professional Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Hootsuite accounts is preferred.
  • CONTENT | Write articles for the OAC’s blog; edit staff and guest blog posts as assigned; and assist with production of the monthly e-newsletter via MailChimp.
  • EVENTS | Support planning and execution of special events including the Governor’s Awards for the Arts in Ohio, board meetings, the Arts Impact Ohio conference, and other professional development opportunities for the field.
  • MEDIA | Maintain and update the OAC’s media lists; draft media releases, grant announcements, and other event promotions as assigned.
  • DESIGN | Assist in graphic design, videography, and photography projects as assigned.
  • LEAD | Participate in periodic professional learning opportunities designed to strengthen the fellow’s understanding of effective leadership.

Term & Compensation:

  • 24 hours per week, hours may vary due to special projects or events, beginning June 15, 2018 and ending June 30, 2019. The selected individual will be paid an hourly rate depending on experience and level of education.
  • Paid annual membership to Columbus Arts Marketing Association (CAMA).
  • Financial support to attend one national conference focused on marketing and communications, public relations, or event planning during the fellowship.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • One year or more of practical experience in communications, journalism, social media, marketing, public relations, event planning, or a related field OR completion of a degree-granting program in the aforementioned fields is required. Exposure to arts marketing or arts administration is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with the public with an enthusiastic, positive attitude. Professional appearance and behavior are expected.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, assist with special events, and adhere to deadlines.
  • Practical knowledge of and interest in social media, web technologies, and content management systems; familiarity with Hootsuite and MailChimp is preferred.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Photoshop and InDesign).
  • Ability to write clearly and succinctly and adopt brand voice.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.

Schedule & Location:

Flexible daytime hours are available, generally between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Regular schedules are preferred (e.g., specific days of the week). Some early morning, evening, and weekend hours and some travel may be required for special events or conferences. The Social Media & Special Events Fellow will primarily work at the OAC’s office at 30 East Broad Street in the Rhodes State Office Tower in downtown Columbus.
