Organizational Services and Community Development

The Ohio Arts Council's (OAC) investment in arts and cultural organizations and the process of community development follows directly from its commitment to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally and economically. Effective arts and cultural organizations are a vital component of a healthy, vibrant community and ensure that all Ohio citizens have access to quality arts experiences. The presence of arts organizations and experiences in communities contribute to improved social cohesion, enhanced civic engagement, revitalized communities and downtowns, and stronger local economies.

The OAC seeks to achieve the following outcomes through the grants, programs and services of its Office of Organizational Services and Community Development:
  • Citizens broaden, deepen and diversify their participation in Ohio's arts and cultural activities;
  • Citizens deepen their understanding of how the arts contribute to vibrant and healthy communities;
  • Arts organizations, artists and the broader community recognize and support diversity and accessibility in arts and cultural activities in the areas of presentation, participation and inclusion.
