As every arts lover knows well, the arts have intrinsic benefits all their own. They can change the way we think. They can make us feel good. And they can bring people together. A beautifully performed sonata, expertly crafted ceramic vase, achingly sorrowful poem, or any of innumerable other arts experiences can each shake your soul, bring you joy, or make you think in ways few other things can.
But the arts also have undeniable instrumental benefits that can affect our public and private welfare in other ways. Today, where the arts intersect a host of other sectors, we find fertile ground for innovation, experimentation, change, and evolution in the way we learn, communicate, solve problems, embrace opportunities, and tackle change.
This intersection is at the heart of this year’s Arts Impact Ohio conference. Its theme, Arts And…, examines places where the arts are making a big difference today – and the list is impressive. The arts and incarcerated individuals. The arts and health care. The arts and veterans. The arts and addiction. The arts and disability. At each of these intersections – and many more – we see innovators using the power of the arts and creativity to address social and societal issues in new ways – some that we might know well, and others that may be less familiar to us.
At Arts And..., through inspiring keynotes, plenary sessions, performances, workshops, one-on-one discussions, and networking with peers both old and new, this year’s Arts Impact Ohio conference will explore intersections of the arts, what we can learn from them, how they might be adapted or replicated, and what they can tell us about the value of the arts for our state.
Beyond Arts And…, workshop sessions will also address some of the most in-demand nuts-and-bolts topics facing artists, arts educators, and arts administrators, including:
We hope you’ll join us for this two-day conference in downtown Columbus, where you'll experience live performances, learn about ground-breaking projects happening around the state, cultivate meaningful relationships, discuss ideas with your peers, and learn from thought leaders from around the state, region, and nation. From executive directors and board chairs to emerging leaders, from fundraisers to communicators, from artists to artistic directors, from volunteers to educators, there really will be something for everyone.
