Governor Kasich Appoints Gary Hanson to OAC Board

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Governor John R. Kasich has appointed Gary Hanson of Cleveland Heights to the Ohio Arts Council (OAC) Board for a term ending July 1, 2021.

“It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome Gary Hanson to the OAC board,” said OAC chair, Ginger Warner. “Mr. Hanson’s profound impact on the cultural landscape in northeastern Ohio, and really the world, as former executive director of the Cleveland Orchestra, illustrates his unwavering passion for the arts. His leadership will be a great asset to the Council.”

Following an illustrious 28-year career at the Cleveland Orchestra, Mr. Hanson served as the interim president of the Cleveland Institute of Music. His time at the Orchestra covered an exciting period of growth, including the renovation of Severance Hall, a surge in the Orchestra’s community engagement in northeast Ohio, and the establishment of residencies in Miami and Europe. Mr. Hanson's excellence as an arts administrator was recognized in 2016 with a Governor's Award for the Arts in Ohio.  View Mr. Hanson's award video online.

“Ohio is known around the world as a home to the arts,” Mr. Hanson said. “I have long admired and appreciated the vital work of the Ohio Arts Council in preserving and supporting our state’s rich artistic life.  I am deeply honored to be appointed to the OAC Board and look forward very much to working closely with the all the members of the board and staff.”
